Jesus came to earth with a very specific mission in mind, he was the one to take away the sin of the world. Although he demonstrated the kingdom that was breaking into the world, he kept his specific mission hidden from those around him. It wasn’t until Peter’s confession of Jesus as Messiah that He became explicit about his need to go to Jerusalem and his role in re-creation. During his final week, as he approached Jerusalem, Jesus was very deliberate in identifying himself as king, in demonstrating the work of dealing with sin, and pointing out what it truly means to recreate.
