In our final sermon from the series “In Light of the Resurrection”, we are examining what it means to give generously. In Luke 18 Jesus is asked what one must do to inherit eternal life. In response, he says, “sell everything you have and follow me.” This was a difficult lesson in the first century, and it continues to be a difficult lesson for us today. But what does selling one’s possessions and giving generously have to do with each another? Can’t we be generous and still keep our stuff? I think Jesus would say “no."
This Sunday as we gather for worship we will come together around the Lord’s table to be reminded and proclaim that “God so loved the world that he gave (generously) his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
