John 2:1-12 "Bring Your Best"
What does it mean to be the best? To bring the best? To offer the best? When we were in Disneyland a couple years ago, it dawned on me as we were walking around that we were in a place that is the very best at what they do! However, although they are the best when you are invited into their world and on their terms, once you leave the magical world of Disney, there are still people going without food and begging for money right across the street. At a wedding in Cana Jesus brought the best and only a few people knew it was him who did so. In fact, the way John tells the story, Jesus only brought what he did at the request of his mother who knew her son was the right person for the job. Yet despite the relative obscurity in which he brought his best, what he brought had a great impact on the party. As we begin our look at the seven signs John tells to reveal Jesus to his listeners, he starts by showing us that when Jesus is given influence on a situation, he brings the best.
