The Beatitudes
He said:
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Salt and Light
13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
The Beatitudes: "Mournful"
Do you care, deep down, that there are those who do not know Jesus? Does it matter at all to you that there are those who are unaware they are out of step with God? Would you be willing to give up everything for the sake of another person coming to an intimate relationship with Jesus? And what if that other person was you, would you give up what you hold close to for the promise of a relationship with the Son of God? These are some of the questions inherent in the beatitude, “blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” As we continue examining the good life Jesus calls us to we will learn what it means to mourn, how we are comforted, and how this is essential in bearing witness to the kingdom of God.
