Scripture: Romans 12:3-13
Message: Body Building
Speaker: Tyler Graftaas
Last week we talked about Paul urging Christians to offer themselves as sacrifices to God which are living, holy, and pleasing to Him. In so doing, as we continue to study the scriptures and practice the ways of Jesus, our minds will be renewed and we will be transformed. Paul goes on, as we will dive into this week, by painting a picture of what a church of transformed people looks like. Using a metaphor he employs throughout his writing, Paul calls the church to be a body, with each member doing what it is created for and capable of doing. Quite frankly, the list is exhausting, and when I read it, overwhelming. But it also feels exhilarating, uplifting, and intriguing; it makes me wonder, “could we become this?” The answer, of course, is yes, but the real question to ask is not, “could we?” rather, “am I willing?” Just like getting in physical shape, building the body of Christ means abandoning unhealthy patterns of living and practicing healthy ones, which all begins by taking the next step.
