Scripture: Romans 12:1-2 & 13:11-14
Message: Wake Up!
Speaker: Tyler Graftaas
Despite its past characterization as a theological treatise, the letter to the Romans is a very personal letter centred on the gospel of Jesus the Messiah. Paul desperately wants the churches in Rome to know, through the death and resurrection of Jesus, God has been faithful to his Abrahamic promise to bless all nations (Gen 12:1-3). As a result, no matter our ethnicity, social standing, failures, et cetera, we become holy and acceptable to God in Christ. But what does it really mean to be in Christ? The answer is found in Paul's theology.
Theology, when done well, is not abstract ideas detached from real life, it has real implications for our day to day lives. Good theology is what we find in this letter. Unfortunately, due to time, language, culture, and a myriad of other challenges, the theology of Romans can seem overwhelming to us. So where do we start? How do we begin to wade through all that Paul has written about what Jesus has done, and what our response should be? I believe we can start by heeding the words I say to my kids every school day morning, “wake up!"
