Hebrews 12:1-17
Life or Death
In the movie Shawshank Redemption (1994) the character Andy (Tim Robbins) and Red (Morgan Freeman) are discussing their plans for the future if they ever got out of prison. Andy has a vision of moving to Mexico and living on the beach chartering fishing trips, while Red can’t see himself outside of prison. As their conversation draws to a close Andy says, "I guess it comes down to a simple choice, really. Get busy living, or get busy dying.” This is a choice we face in nearly every aspect of our lives and at all times. As the writer of Hebrews comes to the close of his letter he encourages his audience to get busy living by throwing off the sin that entangles and run the race with perseverance. As we gather on this last Sunday, and in every time and every place, we are faced with a simple choice really, do I choose life or death?
