Jonah 1-4

The Book of Jonah
Do You Love Me?

Sin separates us from God, it separates us from one another, but it also separates us from ourselves. In each of us, there are things that we say that are different than what we do or how we act, Jonah was such a character as well. On the one hand he said, “I am a Hebrew and I fear/worship the Lord who made the sea and the dry land” yet on the other he ran away from God and would rather die than see his enemy forgiven and restored to health - Jonah did not really fear God, he loathed God instead. The story of Jonah ends with a rhetorical question, “should I (God) not have compassion on the lost?” to which the answer is a resounding yes - for if it is no, we are all doomed. Similarly, after his resurrection, Jesus confronts Peter with a question and it is a question Jesus asks of us all, “do you love me?"
