Where The Battle Lies

As we conclude our series on the book of Ephesians it is somewhat fitting to wrap things up on Easter Sunday. As Paul finishes his letter, having shared with them who God is, what he has done, who they are as a result of who God is and what he has done, and how they should respond/live in response to all of his, he leaves them with a final warning: be strong in the Lord…for our battle is not against flesh and blood…but against spiritual forces. In the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus, sin and death have been defeated. Those who are in Christ no longer have to fear death or sin - we have been freed to live as the people of God bearing witness to Him wherever we go, proclaiming the glory of God in word and deed. But our experience is such that we don’t always sense or live in that freedom. There is a battle going on in us and between us as people that does not reflect the freedom of the resurrection. This Easter Sunday let us gather together as the people of God, to worship our creator and redeemer, to fellowship through the breaking of bread and sharing in one another’s stories, and to be reminded once again where the battle lies.
